Today we were joined by Mayor of the West Midlands Andy Street who met with the University of Birmingham’s VC Professor Adam Tickell and Bruntwood SciTech’s Birmingham Director Rob Valentine. They discussed the impact that Birmingham Health Innovation Campus will have on life sciences research and the local community in Selly Oak – including 10,000 jobs across the site and £400m GVA added to the economy once campus is complete.
Satnam Rana-Grindley of Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership then joined us for a site visit where the team saw the incredible progress John Sisk & Son Ltd are making on No1 BHIC. PHTA is set to occupy the top 3 floors of this beautiful building and the party were able to see the team in action during construction of the fourth floor.
The viewing platform also afforded a magnificent view of the full 10-acre BHIC site which, when complete in 2030, will be the region’s only science park dedicated entirely to life sciences research. And, with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Women’s Hospital, Medical School and University of Birmingham all within a short walk of the site, our location – in the heart of Birmingham’s critical cluster of health excellence – will provide unique opportunities for collaboration between clinical and academic experts.
