Minister for Investment tours PHTA

Earlier this week, we were pleased to welcome Minister of State for Investment, Lord Jason Stockwood, to tour our facilities at No.1 BHIC. As well as a demonstration of advanced 3D printing in our medtech Makerspace, the Minister learnt about how our being co-located with prestigious institutions at the heart of Birmingham’s health and life sciences district offers distinct benefits to SMEs, industry partners and innovators.

From knowledge leaders, specialty experts and talented graduates via the University of Birmingham to leading clinicians and research infrastructure via University Hospitals Birmingham and Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospitals, businesses based here have access to everything they need to succeed.

And, with Birmingham’s large, stable and diverse population, innovations developed and tested here are inherently scalable and suitable for the global population.

Here’s what Lord Stockwood had to say about the opportunities offered at PHTA in Birmingham:

Professor Neil Hanley, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Head of the College of Medicine and Health at the University of Birmingham, also said: “We were delighted to welcome Minister for Investment, Baron Jason Stockwood, to the newly opened Birmingham Health Innovation Campus today, ahead of the Government’s Regional Investment Summit taking place in Birmingham. The Government’s drive to attract more investment into every region of the UK is welcome, and Birmingham’s thriving health and life sciences district is proof of the huge opportunity.

“Our world-class hospitals and universities work side-by-side, our experts deliver billions of pounds of research, and we have state-of-the-art infrastructure for innovation. Birmingham is young, diverse, vibrant and affordable – and with BHIC now open, we’re on track to create 10,000 jobs and add £400m to the regional economy by the 2030s.

“To deliver on our potential, we need investment. We are at the start of an exciting journey, driving growth and improving health outcomes with next generation diagnostics, therapeutics, and clinical care. It makes a huge difference to have the Government shine a spotlight on regional clusters.”
