The University of Birmingham’s Precision Health Technologies Accelerator (PHTA) has established a strategic partnership with MedTech Makers Lab Ltd (MML) to bring high-potential, international medtech and life sciences companies into the West Midlands.
The collaboration will see MML and PHTA work together to attract high-growth international companies into Birmingham’s health and life sciences district, supporting them through regulatory navigation, clinical development, venture building, capital formation, and commercial scaling.
Together, the organisations aim to strengthen Birmingham’s role as a destination for health innovation, supporting companies working across areas including medtech, diagnostics, digital health, robotics, AI and life sciences.
Based at No.1 Birmingham Health Innovation Campus, PHTA offers specialist Category 2 laboratory space, flexible workspaces, and access to a growing translational health innovation ecosystem. Through the collaboration, companies introduced by MedTech Makers Lab will also have access to PHTA’s Makerspace – an advanced product development prototyping facility designed to support researchers, startups, and entrepreneurs as they develop the next generation of healthcare technologies for patients.
MML is a private sector venture builder and clinical development organisation supporting medtech and life sciences companies from research through regulatory navigation to commercial deployment – bridging the gap between research and revenue, and creating scalable enterprises capable of attracting investment.
The two organisations will also focus on strengthening translational pathways and commercial readiness.

The Memorandum of Understanding will run for an initial two years.
